IN PURSUIT OF STYLE

My name is JC Candanedo and I am a London-based Visual Artist. This is my fashion photography story called In Pursuit Of Style, which I shot featuring sustainable fashion designer Jose Hendo back in 2014. Jose Hendo pursues eco-friendly fashion via zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction techniques, complimented by the use of natural silk, linen and bark-cloth.

When we speak about counteracting climate change, the reductions that we need to make go against the concept of capitalism and growth. To slow-down the damage that we are doing to the planet, we must also slow-down our purchase and consumption behaviour. Less is more, no truer words were ever spoken.

Buy less, reuse more and learn to give a new purpose to items that until now were considered waste. All these necessary habit changes in our lives are not good news for businesses that rely on us continually stocking on their products, but if they don’t take the planet seriously, we are going to have to teach them a lesson. I’ve been writing a lot about this over the last years:

The series was created in collaboration with stylist Roberta Bitto, Makeup Artists Christiana Amankrah and Pascale Maestri, and Nail Artist Valentina Syed . The models are Jessica Turner and Lucy O. from First Model Management.

The work was featured on:

The world's first ever publication fully dedicated to sustainable luxury, Eluxe Magazine, in 2014.
